Medical Billing Clerk

Chatham Emergency Services has an immediate opening for a medical billing clerk. The candidate will work with a team of other medical billers to process ambulance claims, medical record request, posting payments to patients accounts and deposits. The medical billing clerk is responsible for reviewing researching and assisting with billing ambulance claims. Completes and verifies ICD-10 coding. The medical billing team works with a third party billing company to ensure all patients accounts are recorded accurately. The medical billing clerk works under the direction of senior team members and the finance director.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Managing patient accounts and preparing invoices.
  • Inputting patient information and maintaining up-to-date records of patient data using computer software.
  • Works with third party collection agency for all outstanding patient accounts
  • Performing administrative tasks such as answering phone calls and responding to emails.
  • Process medical record requests for patients and third parties (including insurance companies)
  • Review ambulance reports for billing purposes
  • Post payments to accounts
  • Review all certificates of medical necessity
  • Works closely with third party billing company to ensure all claims are processed in an efficient manner
  • Processes payments and deposits
  • Assist patients and vendors with billing questions and concerns
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
    written, oral, or diagram form;
  • Ability to attend HIPPA training classes
  • Ability to calculate basic mathematical figures and amounts
  • Ability to convey and receive detailed or important information and instructions to and from the general public
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of communication;
  • Ability to operate a computer and windows applications
  • Ability to work independently and without supervision;
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals;
  • Knowledge of ICD-9/10 and HCPC medical coding manual;
  • Knowledge of insurance billing laws and requirements;
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures, bookkeeping principles;
  • Knowledge understanding of EMS billing software;
  • Skill in interpersonal, oral and written communication

ability to adjust focus. Heavy computer data entry. Sustained movements of the wrists, hands
and/or fingers in typing or otherwise working primarily with the fingers rather than the whole
hand or arm.

Accountability: This employee is responsible for accuracy in medical record filing. Employee
does not have budgetary authority or responsibility of the department.

Supervision: Limited supervision is provided in this position. Job related decisions may be
reviewed by the supervisor. Employee does not have responsibility over subordinate personnel.
