Apparatus Operatior 1/Paramedic

Chatham Emergency Services is accepting applications for its lateral hire program for the position of Apparatus Operator 1 / Paramedic. See attached job description for full requirements of the position. Candidates must apply online, and attach copies of documents / minimum certifications at time of application to be considered. The testing process requires successful completion of a written exam, physical agility test, and oral interview. All candidates will be required to conduct and meet the National Fire Protection Associations (NFPA) 1582 medical evaluation and physical fitness requirements.

Position Responsibilities Overview: Apparatus Operator 1 / Paramedic is an advanced-level position responsible for fire prevention, suppression, rescue, ALS emergency medical first response, etc. In addition, the Apparatus Operator 1 / Paramedic is responsible as the driver / operator of an assigned unit(s); assist in company level training; and manages assigned fire apparatus, equipment, and facilities.

Candidates with a minimum of two years of full-time paid experience as a certified front-line structural firefighter and a minimum of the following licenses and certifications:

  • NPQ/IFSAC Firefighter 1 and 2
  • NPQ/IFSAC Hazardous Materials Responder Awareness and Operations Levels
  • NPQ/IFSAC Apparatus Operator Pumper
  • NIMS IS 100, IS 200, IS 700, and IS 800
  • National Registry Paramedic AND/OR Georgia Licensed Paramedic

Salary will be commensurate with years of experience, licenses, and certifications. Starting salary of candidates meeting the minimum requirements is $41,249.00. After successful completion of CES Apparatus Operator 1 and Paramedic qualifications, the salary will increase to $45,424.00. Additional years of paid firefighter experience will receive additional compensation at 0.5% per year up to $49,548.90.

Test Information:

Written Exam Dates: General aptitude online examination is sent to the candidate via email and must be completed by April noon on April 29, 2021.

Physical Agility Test and Interview: April 30, 2021.

Background checks are completed on all applicants of Chatham Emergency Services.

Immediate disqualifiers are as follows:

Motor Vehicle Reports:

- DUI / DWI charge with deposition of nolo contender, conviction or plea within the past 3-5 years.

- Driver license suspensions within the past 3 years (except for Insurance Cancellation)

- Multiple Speeding Tickets within the past 2 years

- Multiple accidents within the past 2 years

- Reckless Driving within the past 2 years

- Vehicular homicide or hit and run charge/arrest

- Fleeing or attempting to elude the police charge/arrest

Background Investigations

Applicants must undergo an extensive national background investigation. Applicants are finger-printed and in accordance with the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council (GFSTC), applicants for uniformed firefighting positions must not have:

- Pending Criminal cases

- Convictions, nolo contendere or pleas involving sexual offense or Domestic Violence Act offenses

- Felony convictions and nolo contendere or pleas involving felony arrests (within last 10 years)

- Multiple misdemeanors within the past 3 years

- Serious misdemeanor convictions, nolo contendere, or pleas within the past 3 years

- Criminal Convictions Records within the State of Georgia or nationwide during the past 10 years will be reviewed.

For all non-English speaking candidates, we can assist you per written request. If you need additional resources services send a request to the Human Resources via email (hr@chathames.org) no later than 7 business days prior to the testing date. During this time, we will provide a written English comprehension examination that test your ability to read and understand English. Upon successful completion of this exam, we will provide you the written examination and/or resources per written request.
